Your Boy From Burma was started by Henrique Din in the Fall of 2017 as a place to talk about culture through his experiences as an international student at Point Loma Nazarene University. I first began helping the show with technical support as the Station Manager of Point Radio, and in January 2020, Henrique asked me to beginning co-hosting and working as the sound designer for Your Boy From Burma.
Our season was cut short after campus evacuations due to COVID-19, but we did produce some fun little gems and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked on such a great show. Here are some of the episodes we recorded together:
Ben Boelter Musical Special
For this special episode we interviewed Ben on his music and played a mix of prerecorded mp3’s from Ben’s new album Cool Side of the Pillow with some live acoustic versions performed in the studio.
Jasmine and Rooted Magazine
Rooted is an entirely student run magazine through Point Loma Nazarene University’s Mosaic Clubs. Mosaic promotes and supports diverse cultural groups on campus, building a place for intercultural learning and growth.
Mosaic is awesome and this magazine is just as sick. It’s design is gorgeous and has the kind of content we all need.
Cam and Henrique
On this episode Henrique and I kept it simple. No guests this time. In the words of Bill Withers, “Just the two of us”. Topics on this episode range from agriculture and entrepreneurism to California ecology, plays, music, and much much more.
Jake ‘n Jamaica
Jake and Henrique have special places in each others hearts for one another (I’ve honestly never seen two best friends as close as them). But! We’re also hear so Jake can talk about his 3 week trip to Jamaica with Point Loma Nazarene University’s Love Works.
Talking Thailand with Anna
Fun fact, Anna went to a high school that played Henrique’s in soccer back in Thailand. So, it’s fitting that having her on would send them both into a nostalgic conversation of the country that shaped them.
COVID Zoom Special
Henrique, Jacob, and I met up on Zoom for a great little episode over zoom. Topics ranged from all things quarantine to Jacob’s very short study abroad in Italy. We hope you all enjoy!
